I'll be honest, I've never been a fan of the Lion King, but I have so changed my mind!!

This is Sam Warburton - Captain of Wales and now Captain of the British and Irish Lions as they tour Australia... And my two daughters are both going to be there for the first test in Brisbane today! #exciting #proud

Slambusters

This was the big weekend. Wales were playing rugby against England to decide who wins the Six Nations Championship. Wales are the holders. England were playing for the Triple Crown [beating the other three UK Nations] and the Grand Slam [beating France and Italy too]. Everyone always favours England... We [Wales] had to win by 8 points to hold the Championship and stop England getting the Triple Crown and the SLAM!

Friday night was Comic Relief night and who was spotted taking phone calls and wearing his Wales shirt?

And then on Saturday.... A record 1.1 million people in Wales tuned in to watch the match [total population 2.8 million], nearly 8 million across the country and we annihilated England by 30 points to 3!!! It was the best I have seen Wales play in years and it was a fantastic match, breaking many records. The players celebrated, the fans at the Millenium Stadium celebrated, a Nation celebrated!

The English coach is making a complaint about the referee.
We allowed ourselves a tiny bit of smugness...

Yeah, it was a great weekend :)

Actual news!

Ok an admission - I saw the very first episode of Doctor Who. I was nine years old!
The excitement of knowing it was coming grew and grew until the day of the first episode we were beside ourselves. We were visiting family friends on the day, but they allowed my brothers and I to watch the telly. My eldest brother sat on the sofa, me and my next older brother stood to watch all the way through.

It was so exciting. At last the Sci Fi world that we loved was coming alive for us, not just with US imports like Pathfinders, but with our own television!

And now, as we slowly, slowly approach the 50th Anniversary it feels like that all over again!

But no one is saying anything - until this morning. John Barrowman was on This Morning and when asked finally was able to say he had had a phone call - "We are discussing things" was all he said and has since been on Twitter to say that it could mean anything. Yeah, right John, I expect they want you to make the tea on filming days... or do you know anyone who makes a great cup of coffee? :D

Well whatever it is, it is NEWS at last!!

After winning last years' Grand Slam then having eight defeats in a row, Saturdays win against France - in Paris - was a massive result for us! Jamie Roberts and the adorable Jonathan Davies share a moment that somehow only men can :)

This is being talked about at the moment, decision at the end of the month.

This has just hit Twitter in the last couple of minutes while me and my fellow Wales [rugby] fans are expressing ourselves and our views of England/BBC coverage/Twickenham rather vicariously and profusely. [Standard match day].

A humourous message from GDL [I've not seen him do anything like this before] with an apology for a non-appearance. Ok it is Wales Comic Con and Gareth has always given them a lot of support, but this direct to camera is new for him as far as I know. [?]

So great for us, a Gareth wrapped treat, but... the band [Blue Gillespie] have announced their 'pause', now this? Gareth's haircut?? Very neat for our 'casual is my middle name' boy? Something's afoot I think.

Of course Gareth could have decided to throw it all over for a job in a shop, or a farm, or the on Brecon Beacons National Park... It's possible, but we know it's NOT VERY LIKELY!!
Anyone know any more, heard any rumours?

Gareth is a genuinely funny bloke - look out for a very funny touch towards the end of vid :)

"Character First. Sexual Character Second."

This is an excellent piece which I came cross from a blogger called Deborah Pless.
Worth a read by all Ianto and Torchwood fans.

There have been many words written since the demise of Torchwood and the killing off of the wonderful Ianto Jones, but here is a recent and fresh take on the character we know and love within the world he inhabited.

My dad

My dad was brilliant. I was the only girl with three brothers - brothers with an awful lot in common with my dad - rugby, cricket, music etc. But he introduced me to musicals. My mum as well but mostly my dad.
Dad wrote his own musicals and would take me to London with him to try and sell them. We would have lunch at a Lyons Corner House and it was just brilliant.
He and Mum took me to many musicals over the years. The taught me an appreciation for that best of American art forms - musical theatre, and when the UK started competing up there with the best we were there as well.
They took me to see Sondheim right from the first - and for that I will be eternally grateful.

My dad was a fantastic teacher, loved by so many over the years. He also took part in his community right up until his death on 30th November 2008. He started rugby clubs, drama groups, took part in committees, played cricket and MC'd many an event.
Dad wrote, played the guitar and piano, painted very well, had one of the best senses of humour and was one of the cleverest men I have known.
Most of all he always supported me, most crucially at the times I needed him the most.
I still need him and miss him every day.

Brilliant!

I do get round to posting something and nothing shows - it disappears!
I'm pretty sure it wasn't my fault, though fuck knows where it went.... Floating around cyberspace??

And I can't delete!

Writer's Block: Merry Christmas

After driving my family mad with going on about Torchwood since I rediscovered it in March... got to be my DVD box set of the first three series. All neat and tidy in one place :)
And of course my very special Torchwood mug.

But, as I am seeing this as plural - no one gets only one good pressie at Christmas because of the love and associations with each one - then it has to be the two volumes of Stephen Sondheims complete lyrics and notes.
As I think the man is a genius, I see these as having the equivalent of my own Shakespeare's Folio published just after he died. I love Sondheim's work more than I can say.
